Paolo Simoncelli has his say on David Munoz after his incident with Luca Lunetta in Thailand.
After the Thai Grand Prix, Paolo Simoncelli has made his thoughts clear on Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP rider, David Munoz.
The founder of Sic58 Squadra Corsa reviewed his team's opening weekend in the 2025 Moto3 World Championship. The team's Italian riders of Stefano Nepa and Luca Lunetta had a promising start to their weekends but ended Sunday in fourth [Nepa] and 10th [Lunetta].
However, Simoncelli believes that his team could have achieved more if it was not for Munoz. The Spaniard forced Lunetta off track at turn three under yellow flag conditions, pushing him to the back of the field.
"The weekend that just ended seemed highly promising for the team, with two riders starting from the first two rows," Simoncelli told GPOne.
"Nepa achieved second place, while Lunetta qualified fifth, he was showing a strong race pace. But then came the usual Munoz, who after three years of competing in the World Championship still has not understood the thin line between combativeness and unfairness.
"A racing contact that took place while the yellow flag was waving, among other things. In the end, having to restart from the back, Lunetta was one second faster than the leading group, which says a lot.
"However, he had to settle for 10th place as his final race result. It leaves us with a bitter taste, a 10th place that feels like an 'almost', a glimpse of unexpressed potential."
Munoz was later penalised by Race Direction and will have to start the Argentine Grand Prix from pitlane. This is a decision that Simoncelli has praised new Race Director Simon Crafar for.
"Crafar, the new race director, has brought a breath of fresh air," Simoncelli stated.
"A former rider who, unlike others, is able to distinguish between a good move and the mistake of those at times, acts impulsively, in racing terms 'lets the vein close'."
