'My target is to fight for the podium' - Marquez downplays his hunt for a win with Ducati

Gold and Goose

Marc Marquez continues to claim that his target is to fight for a podium, rather than aiming for his first win with Ducati.

Historically Aragon has been one of Marc Marquez' best race tracks. However, the eight-time World Champion has downplayed his expectations for this weekend's Aragon Grand Prix.

So far in his rookie season with Ducati Marquez is yet to claim a race win. This is despite visiting his specialist tracks like Circuit of the Americas and the Sachsenring. So far in 2024 Marquez has not said that he is desperate to win and has always claimed his goal is to stand on the podium.

Once again when Marquez was asked if he believed that he could win at Aragon this weekend, he straight away stated that he was fast at Aragon in the past, but maybe not in the present.

"Obviously, we are arriving at a circuit that I like and enjoy and I have been strong at in the past, but now it is the present," Marquez stated.

"I know that by doing the perfect weekend I could have the chance to fight with the top guys. It is true that in Austria we were super close, I felt super good with the bike. That was one of the best weekends in terms of feeling with the bike. So let's see how we start here in FP1 and FP2 this will be crucial for me and if we start with a good pace let's see if we can be with the top guys."

Before the start of the 2024 season, Marquez claimed he would treat this season as a 'building' year. However, the Spaniard now claims that he is out of his 'building' phase and is ready to fight for podiums every weekend.

"The building was at the start of the season, now I feel super good," Marquez said. "I feel super good with the team, I feel super good with the bike, it is true that in the future we will arrive at some race tracks where I will struggle more. But I hope to have my chance in some weekends to fight with the guys that are super fast and riding in a very good way. We will try, my target is to fight for the podium positions, and see if we can fight for the victory, if not next year we will have more opportunities."
