Pedro Acosta has made the decision that he wants to step up to MotoGP next season, placing the ball firmly in KTM's court.
There have been heavy rumours floating around that Pedro Acosta will be making the step to MotoGP for 2024, and finally it seems that he has told KTM he is willing to ride for them next year. However, the Austrian manufacturer now have a dilemma.
KTM currently have four riders under contract to ride their four bikes for the 2024 season. So, if KTM want to keep hold of their talented Spaniard then they will have to make room one way or another for Acosta to fit into, whether that means getting rid of one of their current riders or potentially creating a new team for Acosta...
However, it was revealed in an interview on Motorsport.com with Acosta's manager, Albert Valera, that Acosta wants to make the step to MotoGP in 2024.
Valera said: "We want to give KTM the first opportunity to join them in MotoGP, beyond the options contemplated in the agreement between both parties, "KTM has always been very good to Pedro, and he is very grateful."
This decision has put pressure on KTM to find room for Acosta as he has made up his mind and wants to be a MotoGP rider in 2024. This means that if KTM do not make room for Acosta then he will be discussing with other teams and manufacturers to secure a MotoGP ride in 2024.
The 19-year-old is currently second in the Moto2 Championship and has won four races so far this season. These achievements have led Acosta to believe that he is ready to make the leap into the premier class.
The Spaniard has given KTM first dibs at giving him a MotoGP rider next year to repay the trust that KTM have put in Acosta since the 2020 season.
