Maverick Vinales may be looking to return to MotoGP sooner than expected at this weekend's Portuguese Grand Prix.
After a promising first half of the 2025 MotoGP season, Maverick Vinales' year appeared to have come to a premature end after the Indonesian Grand Prix.
However, reports from GPOne suggest the Spaniard could attempt to return with Red Bull KTM Tech3 at this weekend's Portuguese Grand Prix, if he passes a medical inspection today (Monday, the 3rd of November).
Vinales' season hit difficulties at the German Grand Prix in July, as he dislocated his left shoulder in the wet conditions during Qualifying at the Sachsenring. He was then forced to miss the Czech Republic Grand Prix after undergoing surgery, before withdrawing from the Austrian and Hungarian Grands Prix.
After missing four race weekends, Vinales decided to make his return at the Catalan Grand Prix, where he scored points with a 13th-place finish. However, after failing to score points at the San Marino and Japanese Grands Prix, he decided to withdraw from the Indonesian Grand Prix to focus on his recovery.
The 30-year-old has also been on the sidelines for the Australian and Malaysian Grands Prix, where he was replaced by KTM Test Rider, Pol Espargaro.
However, recently Vinales has been back training on a 600cc motorcycle; he also spent two days at the Red Bull Athletic Performance Centre, and was back on track on a 1000cc motorcycle to assess his current physical condition.
With only two race weekends left of his debut season with the Red Bull KTM Tech3 squad, Vinales is keen to get back on track this weekend. But a first medical check today will not be enough to confirm his return, as MotoGP Medical Chief Dr Angel Charte would need to assess Vinales on Thursday.
