RNF Racing has had its entry for the 2024 MotoGP World Championship stripped over ‘repeated infractions and breaches of the Participation Agreement’ that binds teams in the series.
The Malaysian outfit - headed up by former Sepang International Circuit boss Razlan Razali - had just come to the end of its first season running a pair of satellite Aprilia RS-GPs, but RNF Racing itself won’t be present in 2024 after running into trouble with MotoGP’s governing bodies
Despite the exit, it is anticipated that the contract to run the bikes - which Raul Fernandez and Miguel Oliveira are signed to ride in 2024 - will be assumed by another party, with a search underway to find a new partner.
"The MotoGP Selection Committee, comprising members of FIM, IRTA and Dorna Sports, have decided not to select the CryptoDATA RNF MotoGP Team for the 2024 season,” read .
"Repeated infractions and breaches of the Participation Agreement affecting the public image of MotoGP have obliged this decision.
"The Selection Committee will be reviewing applications for a new Independent Team, using Aprilia machinery, to join the MotoGP class grid for 2024.
"More information on this matter will follow in due course."
RNF Racing made its first appearance in 2019 under the Petronas Sepang Racing Team guise as Yamaha’s satellite partner, succeeding KTM-bound Tech 3 Racing.
The team enjoyed immediate success with the Yamaha M1, with rookie Fabio Quartararo becoming a revelation that would set him course for the 2021 MotoGP title, while Franco Morbidelli sealed the runners-up spot in the disrupted 2020 season.
The loss of title backer Petronas in 2022 led to the team reverting to its current RNF Racing guise - named in honour of Razali’s children - initially with the Yamaha M1 before switching to Aprilia.
