After one and a half years with the MSi squad, Sergio Garcia is set to be axed midway through the 2025 Moto2 season.
Ahead of the Italian Grand Prix, there are set to be major changes to the Moto2 grid as two-time race winner Sergio Garcia and the QJMOTOR - FRINSA - MSi squad are set to part ways.
Sky Italia has reported the split after Garcia finished in 20th place at the Aragon Grand Prix this weekend. It has also been suggested that there will be 'an immediate farewell' between both parties.
The 2025 Moto2 World Championship has been a difficult year for Garcia as he missed the opening three rounds of the season due to an injury. However, across the five Grand Prix weekends that he has participated in, he has only scored three points.
Garcia, sitting in 26th place in the Moto2 World Championship, is not what MSi would have expected after he finished in fourth last season, and his teammate Ai Ogura won the Moto2 title.
Who could replace Garcia at MSi?
Sky Italia have also reported two potential candidates to replace Garcia for the remaining 14 rounds of the 2025 Moto2 World Championship.
The first rider that has been suggested is the KLINT Forward Factory Team rider, Alex Escrig. The Spaniard has a two-year deal with the team that expires at the end of the 2026 season, but MSi appear keen to buy Escrig out of his contract for the remainder of the year.
It has also been suggested that MSi will look across to the World Supersport Championship and try to tempt Jaume Masia back across to the Moto2 World Championship.
MSi should have no difficulty with its rider lineup for the 2026 Moto2 World Championship, as they will most likely retain Ivan Ortola and promote Angel Piqueras from their Moto3 squad straight into the Moto2 side of the garage.
