Aprilia Racing CEO, Massimo Rivola, discussed the Italian manufacturer's MotoGP Test in Barcelona.
Aprilia Racing had an important one-day MotoGP test in Barcelona as they welcomed Jorge Martin and Marco Bezzecchi into the fold for the 2025 season.
The Italian manufacturer had an underwhelming 2024 MotoGP season but has gone all in for 2025. As well as two new riders in the factory team Aprilia has signed Fabiano Sterlacchini as their new Technical Director.
"It was quite nice, it was quite unique," Massimo Rivola (Aprilia Racing CEO) told MotoGP.com.
"Not only because of those changes [new riders] but also having Fabiano Sterlacchini as our Technical Director. We also had new crew chiefs and a couple of new mechanics. So, big changes for a big challenge."
The Aprilia Racing CEO continued by explaining that the new members of Aprilia Racing already feel 'united' after one day together.
"It was quite impressive since yesterday to see the glue and the bonding since yesterday of the people," Rivola stated.
"I saw a team of people who were united like they have been working together a long time. I was quite pleased to see that. Impressions today after one day of testing were good so it means in winter time we will have big motivation to keep pushing."
'It looks like the direction of the 2025 bike is better than the 2024 one.'
The big talking point surrounding Aprilia before and during the MotoGP Test was the arrival of the 2024 MotoGP World Champion, Jorge Martin.
The Spaniard won the MotoGP Championship on Sunday with Prima Pramac Racing and Ducati. However, on Tuesday he was in the Aprilia garage and testing the RS-GP. Rivola shared his thoughts on Martin and Marco Bezzecchi's first day in the Aprilia garage.
"The feeling was super positive, he [Martin] actually gave more positive feedback than we expected," Rivola admitted.
"Obviously, there are things that are better and things that need to be improved. Generally, it is a bike that he likes a lot, but we saw him fighting with the bike sometimes. But I think we have an idea of what he wants, also it was interesting to see that Marco [Bezzecch] had similar comments, so the direction is clear."
Rivola did not speak on where Aprilia had tried to make improvements for 2025. However, he did explain that the 2025 bike seemed better than the 2024 Aprilia.
"The test started with the 2024 bike and then they moved to the 2025 bike," Rivola explained. "It looks like the direction of the 2025 bike is better than the 2024 one. So, hopefully, we can make another step in that direction. Again I am very positive and happy about today."
Finally, the Italian responded to Davide Tardozzi's comments about Aprilia Racing having to buy the #1 plate because the Aprilia riders cannot win it on their own bike.
Rivola said: "I think we spent less than them [Ducati] for the #1 plate."
