After not riding a Grand Prix machine since 2019, Andrea Iannone completed the Malaysian Grand Prix without a mistake across the weekend.
Andrea Iannone completed his first Grand Prix race weekend since 2019 on Sunday. The Italian ended the gruelling Malaysian Grand Prix in 17th place, 47 seconds behind the winner.
With modern MotoGP bikes being more physically demanding than when Iannone last raced the Italian was shocked by how exhausted he was after the weekend.
"I feel tired. My physical condition is really, really bad at this moment. Because across these three days, I have given 100%. Now it is really difficult to understand everything. But in any case, I have enjoyed this weekend a lot.
"The race was difficult but my target is to finish the race and this is important. We achieved this target and this result, for me, is really important. We did not make any mistakes during the weekend, sometimes we showed good potential, this was very important."
'I also come to Barcelona? I don’t know.'
Iannone got the opportunity to ride in the Malaysian Grand Prix due to Fabio di Giannantonio's shoulder surgery. The 26-year-old will not ride for the remainder of the season meaning his Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Ducati will be available for the 2024 season finale.
Iannone was asked after the race weekend if he would be back on the Ducati GP23 in two weeks in Barcelona. However, 'The Maniac' is unsure whether it will be him or someone else as he has not been asked yet.
"I also come to Barcelona? I don’t know," Iannone said.
"At this moment, nobody asked me, and I don’t know. Sincerely, I don’t have a lot of energy to think now and also to talk about Barcelona. I’m waiting, in case somebody or Gigi (Dall’Igna), or whoever wants to ask me, and I try to decide.”
