The rumours surrounding BMW potentially joining MotoGP have been reignited again.
Throughout the last few seasons, there have been growing rumours that BMW would enter MotoGP.
The German manufacturer found success in World Superbikes in 2024 as Toprak Razgatlioglu won BMW's first title in the class. BMW's newfound success and MotoGP's upcoming technical changes in 2027 could open the door for a MotoGP arrival.
It was at BMW's recent 2025 World Superbike team launch that the MotoGP rumours were reignited. After the unveiling of the 2025 BMW M1000RR, there was a chance for media outlets to speak to the BMW officials.
It was Speedweek.com that was able to ask BMW about a potential future in MotoGP, and they were told that we would know if BMW would enter MotoGP 'by the middle' of the 2025 season.
"I know we've been saying this for a long time, but we're working on the strategy," Sven Blusch, Head of Racing at BMW Motorrad, told Speedweek.com.
"The important thing at this point is that decisions cannot be made quickly. We want to set it up in such a way that it is a long-term plan.
"The goal is that we will know which direction we are going by the middle of the year. I can only show what options we have. Markus Flasch has to decide what is right for the brand. Ultimately, it has to be decided from the top.
"We don't do anything unless it fits into the overall strategy of the board. That is extremely important. We don't want to get in somewhere and then get out again. An important point for Markus and for me too is that it will last for a long time. It should be integrated into our communication and marketing strategy and independent of people on the board or CEOs. It should be something where everyone understands that it makes sense."
