And so the Mighty Honda has drafted in some 2007 bikes for its top men Dani Pedrosa and Nicky Hayden because the 2008 bike just ain’t good enough. A new, pneumatic-valve motor had already been deemed not up to scratch during testing, and the pair finished the night-testing well down the order. It was Hayden, apparently, that requested the old bikes be flown out after being outpaced by Honda rookies Randy De Puniet and Andrea Dovizioso.
Speaking of rookies, it would seem The Doctor thinks the fights is going to be more open this year because of James Toseland and his Fiat Yamaha team-mate Jorge Lorenzo. He said the championship should not be a Vale, Stoner and Pedrosa show because the younger riders had gone so well in testing.
Toseland’s manager Roger Burnett has stated that people watching the race should understand that it’s all about maximising the 22-litres of fuel that are allowed in the tank. Toseland is using the old valve-spring engined biked which is about four mph slower in a straight-line, and also less efficient. Toseland will have use less power in order not to run out of juice.
If it pisses down with rain at Qatar, which is in the middle of the desert, the races will be stopped because of safety concerns. People with clipboards say that light reflecting off the wet surface could be a problem…
