'Right now I would stop' - Andrea Iannone drops retirement hints amid contract talks

Gold & Goose

If the right opportunity does not arise for Andrea Iannone for the 2026 season, he would contemplate retiring from racing.

Andrea Iannone has hinted that he could retire from racing at the end of the season, if his demands are not met for 2026.

The Team Pata GoEleven rider wants to stay in the World Superbike Championship, but 'would like to fight for a world title'.

If he is not offered a ride that he believes is capable of fighting for the Championship, then he would consider ending his racing career at the conclusion of the 2025 season.

"The championship started very well but the last two races have been a disaster, so right now I would stop tomorrow because it’s not easy," he told GPOne.

"The level is high, and with a private team, it becomes more complex. We’ll see next year.

"We are in talks, and if an official manufacturer comes forward, or at least something good and that makes sense, then I’d welcome it.

"Certainly, I would like to fight for a world title as it’s the only achievement I lack. In WorldSBK, it is within reach, but you need to have a package that allows you to excel.

"To come back, what I did in 2024 and this year is fine, but then to aspire to win, you need to have the top.

"If I were to find a solution, I would like to continue for a couple more seasons otherwise I’d call it a day."

Iannone's 2025 started off on a positive note as he claimed two podium finishes at the opening round of the season at Phillip Island. However, he has only finished inside the top five on one other occasion throughout the next four rounds.

After the opening five rounds of the 2025 season, Iannone finds himself in eighth place in the Championship on 68 points.
