Portimao’s opening day of official Moto3 testing saw Leopard’s returning Jaume Masia lead the standings on 1’48.416 pace.

Rivacold Snipers’ new recruit Romano Fenati and the second Leopard of Tatsuki Suzuki completed the front running top three with VisionTrack’s Scott Ogden opening his 2023 account from eighth in the combined times.

While CFMoto’s Joel Kelso and MT Helmets’ Diogo Moreira headed the opening two 70-minute sessions respectively, it was the Spaniard who held strong for Friday’s third and final action. The Brazilian, unable to improve on his midday best, sat ninth by the close of play as the reminder of the pack improved, with the Australian sixth overall on day one.

Daniel Holgado claimed leading KTM honours from fifth in the final session, Riccardo Rossi completing a Honda quartet just 0.032s ahead while Ayumu Sasaki, who sat out of the morning opener, finished seventh for Liqui Moly Husqvarna. Angeluss MTA’s Ivan Ortola completed the top ten with two days of track time still to play out.
