Takaaki Nakagami will remain with the LCR Honda team for the 2024 MotoGP World Championship season, it has been confirmed.

The Japanese rider has enjoyed a long-time association with the Monegasque-based satellite Honda outfit with his 2024 campaign set to become his seventh season both in the premier class and with the team.

While there have been rumours of Nakagami being replaced by Honda protege Ai Ogura, it is understood Honda is keen to retain the more experienced rider at a time when the Honda RC213V is struggling for competitiveness.

"I feel LCR is part of my family, and of course, I'm excited to be with them for another season," Nakagami, who has achieved 32 top ten results but is yet to stand on the podium, said.

"I want to thank them and HRC for the opportunity, as I know we are a good match. Now it's time to work even harder to be ready for the future."

"I'm proud to count on Nakagami for another year,” added Lucio Cecchinello. “He's a fast rider who can get good results, and alongside HRC, we believe it's time to keep pushing, as he's one of the most experienced guys with this bike. We will give our best to fight for the positions we aim for.”

As it stands, Nakagami is due to line-up alongside the incoming Johann Zarco, though the Frenchman is being tipped to lead the Repsol Honda team should Marc Marquez decide on defecting to Gresini Ducati.
