Alex Rins will skip the Thailand MotoGP and instead undergo more surgery on the leg injury that has scuppered the majority of his 2023 MotoGP World Championship season.

The Spaniard has already spent eight rounds on the sidelines after breaking his leg in a heavy fall during the Italian MotoGP at Mugello back in May.

Though he has since started races in each of the last three events, Rins continues to experience issues with the leg and will therefore go under the knife once again to help alleviate the pain.

“Happy after our doctor's appointment today,” he posted on his social media accounts. “The injury keeps a positive evolution.

“We've identified the cause of the pain and we'll undergo a small surgery to ease it.

“We won't be at the Thailand MotoGP but we keep working towards a full recovery.”

Though Rins’ protracted injury recovery has scuppered a large portion of what will be his one and only season with the LCR Honda team, he did bring the manufacturer its highlight of the year towards the top of the year when he scored a surprise victory in the Grand Prix of The Americas at COTA.

Ex-Suzuki rider Rins will switch to Yamaha Racing alongside 2021 MotoGP World Champion Fabio Quartararo next season.
