The 2025 Spanish Grand Prix will be a weekend to remember for Alex Marquez as he claimed his first MotoGP race win.
Alex Marquez had not won a Grand Prix for 2,093 days, but he returned to the top step at his home Grand Prix in Spain.
The BK8 Gresini Racing rider dominated proceedings at the Circuito de Jerez and beat Fabio Quartararo and Francesco Bagnaia to the chequered flag in the Spanish Grand Prix.
Marquez had not won a Grand Prix in MotoGP since making his debut in 2020, but he had won two Sprint Races and finished second on six occasions.
"Amazing, I cannot say anything more," Alex Marquez told TNT Sports after the Spanish Grand Prix.
"I have a strange feeling, because it is a dream come true, but I still have not realised what happened today. We did the perfect race. In the first two laps, I made some mistakes, especially at turn six.
"When I saw that Marc [Marquez] had crashed like in Austin, I said 'today is yours, today is your day'. At that point, I put together my rhythm, then I was really consistent until the end.
"I did the perfect move in the perfect moment, and I just tried to have the gap and to try to control it. It was a perfect race for me."
Alex Marquez witnessed his older brother, Marc Marquez, crash out of third place at Turn Eight, but still had to pass Bagnaia and Quartararo if he wanted a chance at victory.
The 29-year-old revealed after the race that he had planned his overtake on Bagnaia on Sunday morning, and that he put together a perfect last sector ahead of his race-winning move on Quartararo.
"I knew that after Turn 11 I was faster than Pecco [Bagnaia], I knew it because I saw it this morning in Warm-Up," Marquez said about his overtake on Bagnaia.
"I had that move in my pocket, and I knew that was the place to overtake Pecco. On Fabio [Quartararo], I had not really decided, I was trying to avoid the slipstream because my tyre was getting hot. I was not feeling good, but at that point I made 11, 12 and 13 in the perfect way and I knew that was my moment.
"I did not know if I would get another opportunity so I did it at the perfect time. It was a clear move at the right moment."
