Franco Morbidelli is 'confident' in securing himself 'one of the top spots' for 2026

Franco Morbidelli discusses the latest on contract negotiations for a deal to remain on the MotoGP grid in 2026.

MotoGP silly season has already begun ahead of Round Seven of the 2025 season, but Franco Morbidelli is 'confident' his form will allow him to find the 'best situation' for his 2026 contract.

The Italians deal with the VR46 Racing Team expires at the end of 2025, after he joined them on a one-year contract at the start of the season.

After several difficult years in the premier class, Morbidelli has turned his fortunes around this season on the Ducati GP24. He has featured on a Sprint podium, and two Grand Prix podiums in the opening six rounds of the season.

With 85 points to his name, Morbidelli is fourth in the World Championship and is ahead of his teammate, Fabio Di Giannantonio.

“You can never be relaxed in this world. That’s for sure," Morbidelli told our colleagues at Crash.net on Thursday at Silverstone.

“What I learned, even if I try to stay relaxed, or everybody sees me as a relaxed kind of person, I can assure you that I’m not. You cannot relax in this kind of world.

“Talking about riders market, this is the moment of the year where everybody starts to take into consideration the best chances that they can get.

“And under this point of view, I’m quite confident that me and my team will take the best chance for performing in the best way, because according to the performance we had at the beginning of this season, we were good enough to have one of the top spots for assuring ourselves the best situation.

“So, we will discuss about it together for sure and we will decide on the best situation for sure.”

Though there had been rumours that Pedro Acosta would take Morbidelli's ride in the VR46 Racing Team, these rumours have since gone quiet as the season has progressed.

However, Morbidelli could find his way back into a factory squad as there is an available ride at Honda HRC Castrol, and there could be a free Aprilia Racing ride if Jorge Martin does cut his two-year deal short.
