Aragon MotoGP, Friday Practice Results: Marc Marquez blows field away, KTM to the fore

Marc Marquez sent out a warning shot to his rivals on the first day of free practice action for the Aragon MotoGP as he topped Friday Practice at Motorland Aragon by almost three tenths.

The 2025 MotoGP World Championship leader was untouchable once he'd unleashed his true form on the soft-shod factory Ducati, going more than a second clear at one stage as he set his rivals an unattainable standard.

While the gap would come down to three tenths by the end of the session courtesy of closest title rival Alex Marquez, the elder of the siblings was still at least 0.6s clear of everyone else.

Coming into the weekend armed with a comfortable 24-point lead following an indifferent British MotoGP event, Marquez will look to exercise a similar level of dominance in Aragon as he did last year when he dominated both races for Gresini Racing.

Behind the Marquez brothers, KTM enjoyed a positive return to form with three of its four machines making it into Q2 directly.

Maverick Vinales led its charge in third place on the satellite Tech 3 machine, but Pedro Acosta and Brad Binder - yet to qualify inside the top ten this season - weren't far behind in fifth and seventh respectively.

Honda also maintained his strong level of pace from recent events with Joan Mir setting the same lap time as Vinales but being placed fourth, while Johann Zarco - fresh from his win in France and podium in the UK - was also safely into Q2 in sixth.

Late gains by Fermin Aldeguer moved him into a safe top ten position, the rookie marginally ahead of Pecco Bagnaia, who reached Q2 but again looked unsteady on the factory Ducati package. Franco Morbidelli sneaked through in tenth.

Outside the top ten and therefore consigned to Q1, Marco Bezzecchi couldn't quite build on his surprise Silverstone win as he prepares to go again tomorrow morning.

He will be joined in the first qualifying session by a disgruntled Fabio Quartararo, who looked at sea on a skittish Yamaha M1 well down in 18th to pour doubt on the likelihood of him making it four consecutive pole positions.
