Aragon Moto3, Qualifying Results: Jose Antonio Rueda pips Luca Lunetta to pole

Jose Antonio Rueda put himself in a strong position to extend his 2025 Moto3 World Championship advantage after claiming his third pole position of the season ahead of the Aragon Moto3.

The Spaniard came on strong in the latter stages to set a new lap record of 1m 56.361secs, marginally denying a maiden pole position for Luca Lunetta by just 0.026secs.

Scene of his maiden Moto3 victory in 2024, Rueda has since added a further five successes to his career tally, each of which have come in the opening seven rounds of the 2025 Moto3 season.

It means Rueda arrives at his home venue with a substantial 54 point lead over Angel Piqueras, who faces an uphill task to close that gap down from tenth on the grid.

While it is a third pole position for Rueda this season, it will be only the second time he has started from the front of the grid after being demoted to the back of the British Moto3 field as punishment for blocking a rival.

A strong showing from Lunetta, who achieved his maiden Moto3 podium at Aragon last year - a feat he repeated last time out at Silverstone - he was the best placed Honda rider on the SIC58 Squadra Corse machine.

Forced to come through Q1 after a crash in Friday Practice, Maximo Quiles made the most of the additional track time to get all the way up to third place, the CFMoto Aspar rider edging out fellow rookie Alvaro Carpe in fourth.

Taiyo Furusato was another rider to come through Q1 en route to fifth on the grid, while Jacob Roulstone secured one of the best qualifying results of his Moto3 career in sixth.

On a disappointing afternoon for Leopard Racing, David Almansa's hopes of building on his top time in FP2 was scuppered by a crash in the latter stages. He remains seventh on the grid, which is significantly better than team-mate Adrian Fernandez, who failed to get a time on the board after a crash at Turn 10 early on, leaving him 18th.

Joel Kelso gets underway from eighth place, ahead of David Munoz, who bounced back from a nasty high-side early in the session at Turn 8 to go ninth.

Behind title chaser Piqueras, Scott Ogden is well placed for points in 11th place, while his fellow Briton Eddie O'Shea was 24th of the 26-strong field.
