'I'm looking forward to trying the V4' - Fabio Quartararo

Gold & Goose

Ahead of the Italian Grand Prix, Fabio Quartararo gave an update on the latest V4 test that took place after the Aragon Grand Prix.

Fabio Quartararo comes to the Italian Grand Prix off the back of three Grand Prix retirements in a row, after crashing at Le Mans and Aragon, and suffering a mechanical issue at Silverstone.

The 2021 MotoGP World Champion was glad to leave MotorLand Aragon after a tough weekend at the Spanish circuit for the whole Yamaha camp.

"I was really happy to leave Aragon to be honest," Quartararo told MotoGP.com ahead of the Italian Grand Prix.

"We are here at Mugello, which is my favourite track. We will see how things are going here, but I think in sectors two and three here we will be quite strong, but in sectors one and four we are still missing the acceleration for the straights.

"Hopefully, we will be able to find something else."

In between the Aragon Grand Prix and the Italian Grand Prix, the Yamaha test team has been hard at work with the new V4 engine.

Andrea Dovizioso and Augusto Fernandez were able to test the V4 engine at the Circuit de Barcelona - Catalunya.

Quartararo has expressed his desire to test the new engine, but from what he has heard, the project is 'going quite well'.

"I have spoken with the team, not with Dovi or Augusto yet," he said.

"But things are going step by step, and every day we are making a step forward. It is normal when you have a new engine to have a few tests. I think things are going quite well, but we need quite a lot of time.

"I am looking forward to testing it, because I am curious how a V4 engine feels. But things are going well."
