Alex Marquez has had a successful post-surgery check-up and begins his road to recovery ahead of his MotoGP return.
After his recent surgery following the Dutch TT, Alex Marquez is now on the road to recovery.
The BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP rider had successful surgery after sustaining an injury to his left hand after a crash at the TT Circuit Assen.
Marquez made contact with Pedro Acosta on the back straight at Assen in the Dutch TT and crashed when his front brake lever was touched.
During the crash, he broke his left hand and was operated on in Spain that same evening.
"Great news from my first post-surgery check-up. Recovery begins," he said on social media.
It is unknown when Marquez will try to make his return to Grand Prix racing after sustaining this injury.
The next Grand Prix will take place in Germany in a little over a weeks time, from the 11th to the 13th of July.
After two weeks of no racing, it is possible that the 29-year-old could compete at the German Grand Prix. However, the Sachsenring is one of the most physical tracks on the MotoGP calendar, which consists mainly of left-handed corners.
A week after the German Grand Prix is the Czech Republic Grand Prix at Brno, which is the final round before the summer break.
Alex Marquez currently finds himself second in the MotoGP World Championship after 10 Rounds of the season.
But the younger Marquez brother is already 68 points behind his older brother, Marc Marquez, who has a comfortable lead in the Championship.
However, Alex Marquez does have a 58-point lead over the Ducati factory team rider, Francesco Bagnaia, who sits third in the standings.
