At Misano this week, Jorge Martin will make his return to MotoGP machinery for the first time since the Qatar Grand Prix.
After being on the sidelines since the Qatar Grand Prix, Jorge Martin will make his return to MotoGP this week.
It has been announced by Aprilia that the reigning MotoGP World Champion will test the RS-GP at Misano on Wednesday, the 9th of July.
The test will be Martin’s first time aboard a MotoGP bike since his accident at the Qatar Grand Prix in April, where he suffered rib fractures and lung damage after falling and being hit by Fabio di Giannantonio.
Martin will become the first rider to benefit from the recent changes to the MotoGP rules for injured riders, after Aprilia appealed for the rule change earlier in the year.
The Spaniard has already been back on track as he tested a Superbike last week at Barcelona, but a return to a prototype Grand Prix machine is the next step towards his return.
After signing with Aprilia Racing for the 2025 MotoGP World Championship, the #1 has only appeared at one Grand Prix weekend.
Martin's title defence has been plagued by injury woes as he missed pre-season testing and the opening rounds of the 2025 MotoGP season after injuries during the opening morning of the Sepang test, which was followed by more fractures in a Supermoto training accident on the eve of the Thai season opener.
Despite his return to MotoGP machinery this week, a recent medical test ruled Martin out of a return at the German Grand Prix. It is now expected that Martin will be back on track at Brno for the Czech Republic Grand Prix in two weeks.
