Gigi Dall'Igna labels Francesco Bagnaia's Austrian Grand Prix performance as 'underwhelming'

Gold & Goose

Francesco Bagnaia's lacklustre performance at the Austrian Grand Prix has been labelled as 'underwhelming'.

Whilst one side of the factory Ducati garage celebrated Marc Marquez's ninth Grand Prix win of the 2025 MotoGP season, the other side was left in confusion after Francesco Bagnaia finished in eighth.

Bagnaia has been victorious at the Austrian Grand Prix for the last three years and was expected to at least be on the podium on Sunday.

However, after a good start, the Italian could not match Marc Marquez and Marco Bezzecchi's pace at the front. Even more confusing was the sudden drop in pace from Bagnaia as he fell further back through the order to eighth place.

After his disappointing race, Bagnaia was lost for words and could only describe the issues he is facing as 'very strange'.

But Ducati Corse's General Manager, Gigi Dall'Igna, was not as lost for words on Bagnaia's performance at the Red Bull Ring.

The Italian believes that the Austrian Grand Prix was a 'wasted opportunity' for the two-time MotoGP World Champion, and that his performance was 'definitely underwhelming'.

"Every race that passes is a wasted opportunity to improve," Dall'Igna told Sky Sports Italia.

"He had a good weekend during all the practice sessions. Yesterday, he had a problem that we have to analyse, but his race was definitely underwhelming today."

Bagnaia still sits third in the MotoGP World Championship, but is now 43 points ahead of Marco Bezzecchi after his fellow Italian finished third at the Red Bull Ring.

The main issue for Bagnaia in the Championship standings is that he is now 197 points behind his teammate after 13 rounds of the season.
