'It was an incredible comeback' - Fermin Aldeguer reflects on his second Grand Prix podium

A second-place finish at the Red Bull Ring was Fermin Aldeguer's second Grand Prix podium and his best MotoGP result.

Fermin Aldeguer was able to walk away from the Austrian Grand Prix with his best MotoGP result after he finished in second place for the BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP team.

The Spaniard did not have the best start to the Grand Prix, but was able to make his way through the field and close the gap to Marc Marquez and Marco Bezzecchi.

After passing Bezzecchi for second, Aldeguer set his sights on Marquez, but was unable to catch the eight-time World Champion.

"Today, the race was incredible," Aldeguer said after finishing second at the Red Bull Ring.

"It is one of those races that you dream about. I didn't have the best start; I lost some positions, and it is difficult to overtake here at this track.

"But we worked all weekend on the temperatures, and with the pressures up, so we were ready to arrive at the race. It was an incredible comeback.

"After I overtook Pedro and I was on the podium, the feeling kept getting better. I arrived lap by lap to Bezzecchi, I was thinking that maybe today I could win the race. But it is very difficult to fight with Marc [Marquez], when you are close, he pushes at 100%."

The MotoGP rookie went on to state that he surprises himself with his late race pace and his rear tyre management.

"I am always surprised with myself, with my pace in the last laps," he explained.

"Because I am the best rider at Ducati at managing the rear tyre, I can see it on the Michelin data. I don't know why, maybe it is my style, maybe I am very clean with the throttle.

"Inside the box, I knew that if any rider could battle with Marc in the last laps, it could be me. But we have to continue to work and not think about the victory now.

"We have to continue the good work, and continue to progress, but enjoy today with the family and team."
