'Maybe our problems will be less' - Francesco Bagnaia hopes more grip will benefit him at Misano

Gold & Goose

Francesco Bagnaia hopes to be more competitive at the San Marino Grand Prix with the grippy Misano track surface.

Last weekend at the Catalan Grand Prix, it was a 'nightmare' for Francesco Bagnaia as he struggled throughout the whole weekend.

The Italian rider ended the weekend on a high note as he dragged himself into the top ten with a seventh-place finish.

However, he is hopeful that this weekend he will be able to benefit from the grippy track surface at Misano and be more competitive for his home round.

"I consider the race in Barcelona to be positive, but I am not happy," Bagnaia told MotoGP.com.

"It is true that I gained 15 positions, so I was able to finish in the top ten. But looking at the results, I finished 16 seconds behind the leaders. So, I am not happy.

"It is true that it was a track where we have struggled more than any other track. I am looking forward to riding here with more grip, and maybe our problems will be less.

"I will do better things during the sessions, and during the weekend, to be more competitive."

The two-time MotoGP World Champion is hopeful that his vast knowledge of the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli will aid him this weekend.

"It will be important to work with more feeling," he explained.

"In Barcelona, it was more or less a nightmare from the start. I was not competitive, I was slow, and I finished 21st in Qualifying. So, it was a disaster from my point of view.

"In the race, I tried to take some confidence from it, but I was struggling to be competitive. So, I will try to start this weekend with more motivation, with more confidence on the bike, considering this track is my garden."
