'I was too confident' - Marc Marquez explains his Misano Sprint Race crash

Gold & Goose

Marc Marquez found himself in the gravel at Turn 15 in the San Marino Sprint Race after crashing out of the lead.

On Saturday at the San Marino Grand Prix, Marc Marquez recorded his worst result in a Sprint Race across the entire 2025 MotoGP season.

The Spaniard found himself in the lead of the 13-lap Sprint Race, but his chances of a 15th Sprint victory disappeared when he crashed on the seventh lap.

Marquez lost the front at Turn 15 and his Ducati GP25 tumbled through the gravel, causing him to not finish the Sprint and pick up zero points for the first time since the Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas.

"As always, I was too confident," Marquez told MotoGP.com after the San Marino Sprint Race.

"I relaxed too much, I had done the difficult job of overtaking Marco [Bezzecchi], then I said 'Ok, now the job is done'. Then I went into that corner a bit late, and not with enough attention, and I lost the front.

"It can happen. We arrived here with a very high confidence level, but the most important part is that we were leading the race.

"We are fast, we need to keep the same mentality, and try to avoid these mistakes."

The eight-time World Champion was then asked if he would ride differently during Sunday's Grand Prix after his experience in the Sprint Race.

"I will try to take more care at that specific corner," he explained.

"But tomorrow I will try to ride in the same way that I have all weekend, and try to do my maximum. It looks like he [Alex Marquez] has recovered some gap in the Championship, but it is still big."
