At the San Marino Grand Prix, Alex Marquez boosted his confidence by securing his best MotoGP finish at Misano.
Alex Marquez arrived at the San Marino Grand Prix off the back of taking his second Grand Prix victory of the season after winning in Catalunya.
Despite not being able to match Marc Marquez and Marco Bezzecchi, the BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP rider was satisfied with his pace and two podiums at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli.
"I gave my 100%, my initial plan was to make a good start and lead the race," Alex Marquez told MotoGP.com after the San Marino Grand Prix.
"But it was not my best start, I lost one position, and I was not able to overtake [Marco] Bezzecchi. It was my opportunity today to try and fight for something more than P3.
"In the end, across the whole weekend, Marco [Bezzecchi] and Marc [Marquez] were faster than me by one or two tenths. I gave my 100% until halfway through the race, but I started to have a lot of problems with the front tyre and I nearly crashed two or three times.
"At that point, I realised I had a big gap. I used my head and decided to arrive at the end of the race. I am so happy because it was a solid weekend. I am surprised that we were as fast as we were here in Misano."
In the past, Alex Marquez has struggled at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, and his best MotoGP result at the circuit was sixth place.
However, he was able to show his progress this weekend with a second-place finish in the Sprint Race and a third-place finish in the Grand Prix.
"It was a really important weekend for me, and my confidence," he explained.
"It is true that we were coming from the Catalan Grand Prix, which was amazing for us. We have achieved many points across two weekends, which is important for the Championship. But also for my confidence, I showed myself that I can be fast and consistent at tracks where I normally struggle."
