Marc Marquez has regained the MotoGP World Championship crown for the first time since the 2019 season.

There were emotional scenes after the 2025 Japanese Grand Prix, as Marc Marquez secured the 2025 MotoGP World Championship with a second-place finish at the Twin Ring Motegi.

The Spaniard has been the clear Championship favourite from the opening round of the season in Thailand, and was able to clinch his ninth World Championship at Round 17.

During the 17 Rounds that have occurred in the 2025 season, Marquez has won 11 Grands Prix and featured on 4 four further Grand Prix podiums. He has also been a force in the Sprint Races, having won 14 Sprints, and he has been on two further Sprint podiums.

It had been six years since Marquez's last MotoGP World Championship, which came in the 2019 season, when he was still with Repsol Honda. In the time between his title success, Marquez has undergone several operations on what could have been a career-ending injury to his left arm.

Outside of his injury woes and several operations, the long-time Repsol Honda rider decided to leave the Japanese manufacturer at the end of the 2023 season.

It was Marquez's decision to split with Honda and take the major decision to sign with the Gresini Racing MotoGP squad for the 2024 season, and he was immediately back at the front and ended the year third in the Championship.

After a successful rookie year on a Ducati, Marquez was given a seat in the factory Ducati garage for the 2025 season, alongside two-time MotoGP World Champion, Francesco Bagnaia.

Ducati's decision to sign Marquez was controversial at the time, as they overlooked the 2024 MotoGP World Champion, Jorge Martin, who rode for their satellite team, Prima Pramac Racing.

However, the move ended up being the best decision Ducati could have made as the Spanish rider and Italian manufacturer have been on a different level throughout the season.
