'Sh*t happens, this is racing' - Aprilia boss discusses Marco Bezzecchi's incident at the Indonesian Grand Prix

Gold & Goose

Marco Bezzecchi crashed out of the Indonesian Grand Prix in an incident with Marc Marquez, but walked away with no serious injuries.

Aprilia Racing had highs and lows at the Indonesian Grand Prix. On Saturday, Marco Bezzecchi claimed pole position and victory in the Sprint Race.

However, in Sunday's Grand Prix, the Italian rider collided with Marc Marquez on the opening lap of the race and caused himself and Marquez to crash.

When his team's weekend was described as 'strange', Massimo Rivola explained that it was not strange, as Bezzecchi was the fastest rider.

"Strange is maybe not the right wording, we have shown the speed of the Aprilia, it is a pity to only have two riders instead of four," Rivola told the media after the Indonesian Grand Prix.

"Marco [Bezzecchi] was clearly the fastest rider across this weekend, so expectations were very high. But sh*t happens, this is racing in the end."

In the incident, Marquez fractured his right collarbone and potentially broke the ligaments surrounding it. However, Bezzecchi walked away in a better condition as he did not fracture any bones, but is in 'a lot of pain'.

"Marco is ok, we just got news from Dr Charte that he took him to the hospital for a scan," he stated.

"There are no broken bones. He is in a lot of pain; this is a sum of the two crashes from Motegi and this one. But, first of all, we need to apologise to Marc [Marquez]. What happened is racing, but it is always bad when we see crashes, and you are part of putting someone out of the race."

Bezzecchi is now walking wounded, and Jorge Martin will miss the Australian Grand Prix due to injuries. Lorenzo Savadori will likely be called upon as a replacement rider once again, leading to questions being asked about Aprilia's lack of backup riders.

"I hope we can have more luck with less crashes," he joked.

"But if these will be our statistics, maybe we do need some more riders. This year, [Lorenzo] Savadori did not test. I don't want to say at all, because he did some tests, but he was racing.

"So, maybe if there is a chance, if you ask me about Miguel Oliveira, if there is a chance, we will see, we will take the chance, but so far I don't know."
