Marco Bezzecchi could become the first Aprilia rider in MotoGP history to claim third place in the MotoGP World Championship.
With two rounds remaining in the 2025 MotoGP World Championship, Marco Bezzecchi is well in the fight for third place in the Championship standings.
As the season has progressed, Aprilia has emerged as Ducati's main rival in MotoGP, with Aprilia claiming two Grand Prix wins and three Sprint Race wins with Marco Bezzecchi and Raul Fernandez.
Currently, Bezzecchi leads Francesco Bagnaia by five points in the Championship with only two Grands Prix race weekends left on the calendar. If Bezzecchi outscores Bagnaia by 37 points this weekend, he will claim third in the standings and will become the first Aprilia rider to do so.
The battle for third place in the Championship also includes Pedro Acosta, but he is 31 points behind Bezzecchi in the standings.
In the past, the best Aprilia rider in the MotoGP World Championship has been Aleix Espargaro, who ended the 2022 season in fourth place for the Italian manufacturer.
"First of all, it’s super cool to be able at least to fight for it and be there with only two races to go," he told MotoGP.com ahead of the Portuguese Grand Prix.
"So, very happy for this. Now, we are in a position to fight, so we would love to try to achieve it.
"It will be a tough battle because Pecco is super strong, and Pedro [Acosta] is also super strong. But I’m also quite strong. So, hopefully, we can try to fight until the end."
