Ducati MotoGP rider to miss Sepang test after preseason injury

Gresini Ducati’s Fermin Aldeguer will miss the upcoming MotoGP test in Sepang, it has been confirmed.

Aldeguer suffered a fractured femur earlier in January when he crashed while training during his winter preparation for the 2026 season.

The Spaniard underwent successful surgery on the injury, but it has now been confirmed that he will not take part in the upcoming official MotoGP test at Sepang on 3–5 February.

Aldeguer’s Gresini Racing team confirmed the absence of the Spaniard from the Sepang test in a short social media post.

“If Fermin is forced to skip the pre-season, then Gresini goes to the mountain,” the post, which features a photo of Aldeguer with team manager Michele Masini and his crew chief Frankie Carchedi, reads.

“Fermin officially missing the first test of the season in Sepang.”

The news does not come as a particular shock, Aldeguer having broken his femur just a few weeks before the opening test of the season in Malaysia. What remains to be seen is when Aldeguer will be able to make his return to MotoGP, whose season gets underway on 27 February – 1 March.

Aldeguer’s absence means that Gresini’s only rider in Sepang will be Alex Marquez, who goes into 2026 off the back of his best-ever year in MotoGP in 2025, a year in which he won three grands prix and finished second in the riders’ standings.

It was a season good enough for Marquez to earn himself factory equipment for 2026, which he will begin learning in Sepang on 3–5 February.
