Andrew Irwin ended the Donington BSB test happy after ending inside the top-10 in the first outing for him on the Ducati and for the MET fonaCAB team.
The MET fonaCAB team was put together late for Irwin to be on the grid for this year, so the Donington BSB test was the squad’s first opportunity to work together at the track.
Irwin ended the test seventh overall, but only 0.4 seconds behind Bimota’s Max Cook at the top of the times.
Considering his lack of time on the bike and the team’s lack of time together, it was a test that pleased Irwin.
“Donington Park was the first test for the whole MET fonaCAB Racing team, the first time we have all worked together; it was a great opportunity to all work together and understand how we all worked over the two days,” Irwin told BritishSuperbike.com.
“We got faster and faster and closer and closer to the front throughout the test, and ended seventh.
“I think at Oulton Park we can continue to make really good progress and try and set ourselves as best as possible at the final test before round one.
“To be back on a Ducati again was a really nice feeling; getting on the bike felt like when I first got on it in 2018; the V4 feels really similar to that and it put a smile on my face.”
Testing will resume for BSB on 22–23 April at Oulton Park. Round one will take place at the same track just over a week later on 3–5 May.
