Gresini Ducati has confirmed the arrival of Dani Holgado for the 2027 MotoGP season.
Holgado will move up to MotoGP as a rookie next year as the premier class transitions into its 850cc era.
The Spanish rider is currently contesting his fifth season in grand prix racing and his second in Moto2 with the Aspar team. Seven times a grand prix winner, he has scored a best season finish of second in the Moto3 class in 2024.
Holgado currently sits sixth in the 2026 riders’ standings having taken one win this season, that coming at round two in Brazil.
His arrival at Gresini for next season was confirmed this morning (2 July) by the Italian team on social media.
Holgado will make up only one half of the Gresini team next year, of course, but he will not be partnered by either of the two current riders there, it is anticipated. Alex Marquez is rumoured to be moving to KTM next season, while Fermin Aldeguer is expected to stay with Ducati but move to the VR46 team in place of Fabio Di Giannantonio, who in turn is expected to join Marquez at KTM.
Holgado is nonetheless expected to have a compatriot on the other side of the Gresini box next year with Joan Mir having also been confirmed today to be making the move over from Honda, which confirmed via social media Mir’s departure shortly before Gresini announced his signing for 2027.
A Mir-Holgado line-up will be one of the most intriguing in MotoGP and would represent a clear balance between youth and experience, with Mir set to start his ninth premier class season next year
