Yamaha Phase One Endurance were forced to retire from the Albacete 6 Hour round of the FIM World Endurance Championship after a series of crashes in the appalling conditions.
The team were bitterly disappointed after running as high as second and holding a comfortable third place, but after suffering so many offs and having dropped to 22nd place with no chance of scoring any points, team manager Russell Benny reluctantly took the decision to retire from the race.
The event was won by Suzuki Castrol, with Spanish wildcards Suzuki second and CatalaKawasaki Bolliger third.
Phase One’s next race will be the Isle of Man TT in June, where the team are competing for the first time. Their Yamaha YZF-R1 will be ridden by experienced TT competitor James McBride.
