Irishman Eugene Laverty has put his Blusens Aprilia on the provisional second row of the grid for this weekend's race at Brno and dedicated the meeting to his friend Craig Jones, who will be buried on Monday.
Laverty, who has struggled all year with the pace of his Aprilia, always comes good in the rain but says the damp conditions in the Czech Republic are not easy.
"This is my best qualifying for some time and the rain has made this session very hard. This morning I found I was comfortable with the pace I was running but there are gaps in the bike's performance," he said.
Hector Barbera claimed the provisional pole, even after a small tumble, as conditions worsened through the session.
There is more rain forecast for tomorrow, so fingers crossed for Norge.
