JOHN SURTEES' SON KILLED IN BRANDS HATCH CRASH

Henry Surtees, son of the legendary motorcycle racer John Surtees, was killed today during a bizarre crash at Brands Hatch during a Formula Two race at the Kent track when he was struck by a flying wheel.

The 18-year-old was hit on the head by a wheel and tyre that had come off another car as it hit the wall exiting Westfield. Surtees was knocked unconscious and ran straight off the track into a barrier at Sheene Curve.

Surtees was treated at the Brands medical centre and then airlifted to hospital in London but later died from his injuries.
