British Superbike regular Scott Smart won both races in the second round of the Qatar International Road Racing Championships at the weekend on top of setting pole position and fastest lap.
He didn't have it all his own way, however, as Moto2 rider Mishal al Naimi and series front runner Abdul Aziz Binladin, who has raced in Britain's National Superstock 1000 series, were in hot pursuit and finished only 0.060s behind Smart in race two. The wins move Smart to fourth in the series and only seven points behind the leader.
"It's great to be racing in the winter months especially on a MotoGP track. Al Naimi on a Ten Kate Honda provides a real challenge as his bike is fast and he really knows the circuit. I'm hoping to do as many non-clashing races as possible over the rest of the season," said Smart, speaking to bikesportnews.com from the observation deck of the Burj Khalifa in Dubai.
