MotoGP Losail: Stoner continues to set the pace as Rossi struggles

Repsol Honda's Casey Stoner continues to set the MotoGP pace in free practice two at Qatar but it was only the reigning champion's final lap that was enough to topple Yamaha's Jorge Lorenzo from top spot.

Lorenzo had led the entire session with a 1'56.317 and then upped his pace with a few minutes to go, lapping at 1'56.174 before Stoner resumed normal service to dip under the 1'56s bracket with a 1'55.960.

Monster Yamaha's Andrea Dovizioso also put in a storming lap to bag second place on the privateer YZR-M1 while Ben Spies, on the second factory Yamaha, came up to fourth with his 14th lap of 16, deposing Hector Barbera who was the quickest of the Ducati on his Pramac-backed satellite bike.

Dani Pedrosa got off the floor to record the sixth fastest time ahead of Nicky Hayden while Britain's Cal Crutchlow slipped to eighth from second in the space of the final ten minutes. Stefan Bradl and Valentino Rossi rounded out the top ten.

The Doctor is some 1.3s slower than Stoner and also half a second off team-mate Hayden but he has cut the gap from yesterday. Colin Edwards topped the CRT standings but he is being chased hard by Randy De Puniet who is less than two-tenths slower. James Ellison finished last and is just over six seconds off the pace.
