Monster Yamaha's Cal Crutchlow looked set to finish tonight's final MotoGP free practice at Losail on top of the timesheets until 2010 World Champion spoiled the British rider's party knocking him into second spot with his final lap.
Crutchlow went into first place on a 1'55.456 with only three minutes left after trying his luck with the softer Bridgestone tyre but is was not quite enough as Lorenzo banged in his 1'55.302 one minute later. Casey Stoner was third but had his final lap baulked by a dithering Alvaro Bautista and the normal Stoner admonishing was delivered.
The reigning champion is nearly four-tenths slower than Yamaha's Lorenzo while another Yamaha in the shape of Andrea Dovizioso is in fourth place and a further two-tenths slower than his factory counterpart. Repsol Honda's Dani Pedrosa is sixth on a 1'56.114 and one place ahead of Hector Barbera who got a flying lap in as he followed Lorenzo around early doors.
Ducati's Nicky Hayden jumped up to seventh place in the dying minutes after langushing just above the CRT bikes for most of the session and the 2006 champion is 1.1s slower than Stoner but only a tenth faster than his team-mate Valentino Rossi who managed a 1'56.535 on the softer tyre.
Stefan Bradl continues to perform well in his rookie year, sitting pretty (if that's the right word for him) in ninth with Alvaro Bautista in tenth place, 1.5s off the pace. Ben Spies recovered from a fast crash through turn 13 early on to set the 11th fastest time.
The CRT battle between Randy De Puniet and Colin Edwards continues, this time with the Frenchman seizing the advantage before going down on his last lap. He is in 13th place overall but only one place and 0.049s in front of the twice World Superbike Champion. James Ellison has reduced his laptime by five seconds over the course of today and is now on a 2'00.563.
