Jerez remains on MotoGP calendar but it's curtains for Estoril

MotoGP ringmaster Carmelo Ezpeleta has said that despite its financial woes, Jerez will remain on the MotoGP calendar for 2013 alongside Aragon and Barcelona but it looks likely Valencia and Estoril will be canned, or at least rotated, from next season.

The Jerez track has been suffering from cash trouble and still apparently owes money to the consortium which carried out re-modelling work in 2011 but, according to the stout chaps at motomatters.com, the track will run a race in 2013 and will more than likely carry on doing so for five years.

Motorland Aragon already has a contract and the finances to continue to host MotoGP so it is left to Barcelona to hold the third Spanish round as the local Valencia goverment is facing far tougher budget cuts than its cousins.

As the economic situation in Portugal looks like it is disappearing down the same hole as Greece, Estoril simply may not be able to afford to run a premier class race every year and may have to rotate with Valencia or Barcelona. The country's other track, at Portimao, is in even worse state with court papers being issued for non-payment left, right and centre.
