Australian Glen Richards took victory in this afternoon’s British Supersport race after it was halted early due a red flag on lap ten of sixteen.
Gearlink Kawasaki’s Ben Wilson took the holeshot from pole position with yesterday’s race winner Kennedy and Smiths Triumph’s Richards closely following. On the third lap the trio were joined by three more contenders with Christian Iddon in fourth ahead of Richard Cooper and Sam Warren.
Richards quickly made his move on Dubliner Kennedy to take second but the Championship leader retaliated almost immediately as he moved past on the brakes into Island Bend. The following lap Kennedy took the lead as he moved his Mar-Train Yamaha past Wilson at Island Bend. Richards was then moved back a further place as former World Supermoto competitor Christian Iddon moved past at the Shell Hairpin.
The Aussie fought back though as he moved back into third on the entry to the first corner, Old Hall. Two laps later on lap nine, Richards then moved into second as he slipped past Wilson once again at Old Hall. Richards then lined up his Triumph on the Yamaha of Kennedy on the run down to Lodge and as he moved past the door was left open for Wilson. As they crossed the line it was Richards followed closely by Wilson and Kennedy. The red flag was then brought out due to an incident involving Deane Brown at Old Hall and the victory was handed to last year’s Superbike EVO Champion, Glen Richards.
Warren held off Iddon and Richard Cooper to take fourth with Billy McConnell getting the better of Pauli Pekkanen to take eighth. Luke Mossey took ninth with Glen Irwin taking his second Cup victory of the weekend to further his Cup Championship lead.
Kennedy leaves Oulton as the Motorpoint British Supersport Championship leader with Ben Wilson, Sam Warren and Glen Richards all with 13.5 points of the Dubliner.
