MotoGP Silverstone: Stoner fastest in final practice; Rossi ninth

Repsol Honda's Casey Stoner has set the fastest time in this morning final MotoGP free practice session at a freezing cold Silverstone while Britain's Cal Crutchlow crashed out, badly spraining his left ankle.

Stoner went under the 2'04s barrier with his final lap of the session - and also the quickest of the weekend so far - of 2'03.941 to topple Yamaha's Jorge Lorenzo. The Spaniard has found some speed overnight and climbs from his lowly seventh yesterday, finding a second to up his game to a 2'04.357.

Team-mate Ben Spies is continuing his run of form to go third quickest and he is less than a tenth off Lorenzo while Alvaro Bautista, usually sixth in any given session, is one place better and keeps the second factory RC213V of Dan Pedrosa behind him.

Nicky Hayden is the lead Ducati seventh with the satellite bike of Hector Barbera eighth, crucially in front of Valentino Rossi. The Doctor was a masive 2.6s off the pace and again the last of the prototypes.

Randy De Puniet tops the CRT table with a 2'07.190 with team-mate Aleix Espargaro behind him. Britain's James Ellison is 13th and fourth in the CRTs with a lap of 2'08.564.
