Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki’s Shane Byrne took his first pole position of the year in this afternoon’s MCE British Superbikes Qualifying at Brands Hatch. Byrne stole it away from the Tommy Hill by just 0.062 of a second.

Michael Laverty aboard the Samsung Honda took third ahead of Josh Brookes, who jumped up from eighth to fourth, pushing Noriyuki Haga on to the second row. Chris Walker ended up sixth with James Westmoreland getting the better of his WFR team-mates Graeme Gowland and Alex Lowes to take seventh. Michael Rutter rounded out the top ten.

Tyco Suzuki’s Alastair Seeley was unable to set a laptime with a technical problem stopping him on his out-lap. James Westmoreland jumped up from eleventh to eighth to secure his spot in Q3. Michael Rutter, on the MSS Bathams Kawasaki, moved up from twelfth to tenth with the chequered flag out, pushing Stuart Easton out of Q3.

Qualifying 1 suffered an early delay as David Anthony blew up and consequently crashed causing the red flag to be brought out. As the session recommenced GB Moto’s Luke Quigley crashed ending his Qualifying session.

With less than five minutes left Josh Brookes moved up from twentieth to a safe twelfth, followed by Luca Scassa and Jon Kirkham, who moved from twentieth place to safety. MCE British Superbike newcomer Danny Buchan looked to be in Q2 before Barry Burrell moved up to 18th, sending Buchan out of Q1.
