MotoGP Valencia test: Marquez just one second off the pace

Spanish wunderkind Marc Marquez has shown just how talented he is by lapping only a second slower than team-mate Dani Pedrosa in his first-ever test day on a MotoGP bike.

The Moto2 world champion put in a 1'33.403 on his 27th of 28 laps compared to Pedrosa's 1'32.322 on his 25th of 30 which is, frankly, astonishing. Pramac Ducati newboy Andrea Iannone, who has graduated from Moto2 as well also put on an impressive show, lapping just half-a-second slower than Marquez.

"My feeling is so good. The first laps were incredible to feel the power all the time and maybe the wheelie was the most difficult to keep on the floor. The most important is that every time I go out, I improve, I try many things, I try also to change my riding style compared with Moto2 because there is quite some difference," said Marquez, speaking to bikesportnews.com.

"At the exit of the corner, you have to concentrate to lift up quite a lot the bike. In Moto2, for example, you use more lean angle and also the first part of the corner too, on the brakes to go in which is also a big difference.

"There are many things to improve, many things to try. The front tyre is a big difference compared to Moto2 and now the most important is we had a very good feeling with the bike, with the team and everything is working well."
