MotoGP rookie Marc Marquez edged out Repsol Honda team-mate Dani Pedrosa for the number on spot on today's Austin test timesheet, putting in a lap four-tenths faster than the fellow Spaniard at the end of the day.
Pedrosa had led the way at four o'clock as the riders went in for a break but the reigning Moto2 World Champion came out all guns blazing for the final hour, going round in 2'04.619 compared to Pedrosa's best of 2'05.047.
World Champion Jorge Lorenzo was third with a 2'05.047, cutting a further four-tenths in the final hour with Stefan Bradl fourth on a 2'06.053. Valentino Rossi was fifth and almost two seconds slower than Marquez.
