Scott Smart joins Laverty as crew chief at Aragon MotoGP round

Former Grand Prix rider and British Superbike winner Scott Smart has joined the PBM Aprilia team for this weekend's Aragon MotoGP round as crew chief for Michael Laverty.

The Kent man flew out this morning after confirming the placing with the team at the last weekend's Assen MCE British Superbike round, where he was racing in the Supersport class for Oxford TAG Triumph.

"It was something we spoke about over last winter and I was able to do it this weekend, so here I am," said Smart, speaking to bikesportnews.com from Barcelona airport.

"It will take a little while to get used to the systems so the first session won't be very hands on, but after that, it is all about getting the best out of the bike for the rider, so we can start to move things on."

Smart spent some time in America earlier this year in a similar role with some Triumph AMA teams. He was also the technical brains behind the Moto Rapido Ducati BSB team as well as riding for the Winchester-based outfit.
