Scotland’s John McPhee is leading the British Moto3 charge at the opening Qatar MotoGP round, finishing the opening day in eighth place and ahead of the returning Danny Kent.
McPhee, on the SaxoPrint-RTG Honda, missed most of the first session with clutch problems to bounce back in the second to set a 2’06.941, three-quarters of a second slower than fastest man Romano Fenati, who bagged top spot with his last lap, demoting Jakub Cornfeil to second.
Kent, on the factory Husqvarna-badged KTM, managed a 2’07.315 to put himself in 11th place just behind Isaac Vinales and Alex Marquez. Veteran Alexis Masbou was fifth, Antonelli fourth and title favourite Jack Miller third.
