MotoGP Austin: Bridgestone tyre tactics cause uproar

Both Valentino Rossi and Marc Marquez have questioned Bridgestone’s decision to being the 2013-spec medium tyre to this weekend’s Austin MotoGP round with The Doctor saying he ‘doesn’t understand’ the move.

“I’m not happy to use the old tyre, I don’t like, I want to use the new one. For me, what Bridgestone do this weekend to bring another time the old tyre after we work so much with the new one is something sincerely I don’t understand,” said Rossi at Austin.

“I am not agree about that. I don’t understand but some riders complain in Qatar and in pre-season but here we will try to manage. Here is was that tyre and it worked well.” added Marc Marquez.

Jorge Lorenzo, who has been very vocal about how much he doesn’t like the 2014 tyre, said it wasn’t down to him: “I will practice and race with the tyres they bring. I am not responsible for the decision. I will always give my advice to the people that decide. I think last year’s tyre is more safe.”

Britain’s Bradley Smith added: “I think having the 2013 tyre will clarify everything for Bridgestone. The 2014 tyre is better and it will shut up some riders who are whingeing. I’m excited to get through this weekend and go back to the 2014 spec.”

There has been no word yet from Bridgestone on the move...
