Husqvarna’s Danny Kent took advantage of team tactics in Moto3 qualifying practice at Argentina’s MotoGP round to bag his first front row start of the year.
Kent, who is under the Aki Ajo KTM team umbrella, went out in a pack with stablemate and polesitter Jack Miller, Niki Ajo and Karel Hanika, with interloper Livio Loi, with 10 minutes left on the clock and slipstreamed his way to second behind Miller with a 1’49.617.
Kent was then just edged to third and the outside of the front row by Efren Vasquez, who is team-mate to Scotsman John McPhee, as the Spaniard found a 1’49.252 compared to Miller’s 1’49.200.
McPhee himself ended up in 13th but had pace on his last lap. The Oban rider had set outright fastest sectors in the first half of the lap but encountered traffic in the last part and had to settle for a 1’50.237, just a second off Miller’s time.
