MotoGP Catalunya: Marquez makes it seven after last lap-thriller

Repsol Honda’s Marc Marquez has taken his seventh MotoGP victory in a row after a last-lap thriller which saw team-mate Dani Pedrosa touch the rear wheel of the lead RCV213V and run wide, handing second place to Valentino Rossi. Marquez also equalled The Doctor's run of seven wins in a row, set in 2002.

The trio were involved in a seven-lap scrap for the lead with Movistar Yamaha’s Rossi going into the final third with a slender lead over Marquez and Pedrosa, with Jorge Lorenzo in fourth place. It was also Honda's 100th premier class win.

As the leading trio made their final push, Lorenzo dropped off the pace to a lonely fourth while Marquez pushed past Rossi into turn one for the lead. The pair went wide into turn two and Pedrosa scorched into top spot but the pair were back in front of the tiny Spaniard by the end of the lap - Rossi in the lead.

Marquez was back in front with six to go and a lap later, Rossi tried a pass into turn one but ran wide and Marquez stuffed it back up the inside of the Italian.

Pedrosa pushed past Rossi with four to go into turn one and set off after Marquez while Rossi looked like he had run out of steam. On the last lap, Pedrosa took the lead into turn one but Marquez was straight back past into turn two.

And then Pedrosa made his error, trying to pass Marquez on the brakes, he touched the rear wheel of his team-mate and ran off the track, giving Rossi second place.

Stefan Bradl crossed the line in fifth place but six seconds behind Lorenzo while the Espargaro brothers were sixth and seventh. Andrea Dovizioso took top spot in the Ducati camp in eighth while his team-mate Cal Crutchlow retired with 15 laps to go.

Andrea Iannone and Bradley Smith rounded out the top ten with Yonny Hernandez next along. Scott Redding won the production Honda war after a race-long scrap with Nicky Hayden. Michael Laverty finished in 17th, one place behind PBM team-mate Broc Parkes.
