MotoGP Assen: Lowes chases Rabat for Moto2 top spot

Britain’s Sam Lowes was less than a tenth of second shy of top spot in this afternoon’s second Moto2 practice session at the Assen MotoGP round, finishing 0.081s behind fastest man and series leader Esteve Rabat.

Lowes was sitting in fourth place before he went out for his final run with Rabat second behind Swiss rider Dominique Aegerter with pair already well inside Marc Marquez’s 1’38.391 lap record as they chased each other for ten laps early on.

As Rabat upped his game to a 1’37.889 to top the session on his 22nd lap of 25, Lowes came out of the pits and banged in a 1’37.950 to oust Aegerter with this morning’s quickest man Jonas Folger ending in fourth place and Jordi Torres in fifth.
